Boxing megastar Manny Pacquiao fights against former Welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito on November 13 at Cowboys Stadium for the vacant WBC Light Middleweight Title.  Pacquiao faces a bigger man as he continues his assault in 8th weight class division.  Antonio Margarito who is the once-celebrated warrior, looks for redemption after a loaded-gloves controversy and knockout loss to Shane Mosley wreaked havoc on his reputation.

Manny Pacquiao, named Fighter of the Decade, scored a unanimous victory over Ghanaian Joshua Clottey to retain his World Boxing Organization Welterweight title before 50,944 fans at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas last Saturday (Sunday in Manila), March 13, 2010.

Pacquiao dominated the 12-round duel throwing punches in punches (1,231 punches against Clottey’s 399) but Pacquiao was frustrated by Clottey's defense and decision to cover up and not throw more punches than he did. Pacquiao said that Clottey is a very strong opponent because he took a lot of punches and was not hurt nor knocked out. Clottey said he didn’t feel Pacquiao's power but was bothered by the boxer's hand speed.

The Pacquiao-Clottey fight was watched at the $1.2 billion state-of-the-art home of American football's Dallas Cowboys, by predominantly Filipino crowd of 50,944, the third largest audience to watch an indoor fight in modern boxing history. The boxing ring was dwarfed by the gigantic high definition television measuring 72 feet tall and 160 feet wide hanging 30 feet above.

The loss dropped Clottey’s record to 53-4 with 21 knockouts, but he succeeded in avoiding the fate experienced by David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Miguel Cotto who were all knocked out by Manny Pacquiao, the Pacman.

Pacquiao, who last lost to Erik Morales in March 2005, defended his title on the same date he was to face unbeaten former world No. 1 American Floyd Mayweather Jr. before negotiations fell apart over a (steroid) drug-testing dispute. There’s still hope that Pacquiao’s latest victory could set the stage to reopen talks between Pacquiao and Mayweather's camp. Pacquiao, the only boxer to win titles in seven weight classes, said that he would be willing to fight Mayweather anytime, who’s scheduled to fight countryman Shane Mosley on May 1. But if Mosley wins, he may end up as his next opponent.

Pacquiao’s next plan is to try his luck at politics and run for a congressional seat representing Saranggani Province in the Philippine national election in May (2010). He ran for Congress in 2007 but lost.

Pacquiao is said to receive $12 million, aside from his share from HBO pay-per-view revenues and gate receipts. Clottey earned $1.5 million, his biggest paycheck.
