How to make Beef Steak (Bistek Tagalog)

Here's a Filipino style cooking of Beef Steak which is very easy and simple to follow.

Ingredients:

1 kilo or 2.2 lbs of lean beef, tenderloin (lomo), round (kabilugan), or sirloin (tagiliran), cut into 4 x 4 x 1/2-inch thick pieces
1 teaspoon black peppercorns, cracked
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 piece onion, sliced into rings
juice from 2 lemons or limes, or 10 pieces calamansi
3 tablespoons cooking oil or olive oil

Cooking procedure:

Pound the beef slices lightly to flatten meat. Marinate beef in soy sauce, pepper, and juice from lemon, lime, or calamansi for at least 10 minutes. Set aside.

In a preheated pan with oil, fry the onion rings. Set aside.

Fry the beef slices over medium heat on both sides until cooked. Add the marinade and the onion rings. Simmer for a few minutes until the sauce is thick.

Serve warm. Enjoy eating with rice.

I really wanna cook beef steak it's just that I don't know when the meat is already ok..or for how long am I gonna cook it. I really don't cook good. I experiment though but it's really bad.

genrp, just keep the heat medium or low, test the meat with a fork or knife to see if meat is already tender.. you may bite and taste it to be sure.. just be careful coz it's hot.. I can relate to you, I didn't cook when I was young and single.. after that it's just practice and I read cookbooks especially on the right measurement of ingredients.. thanks and good luck with your cooking.
